Locksmithing

Locksmithing is the knowledge of how locking mechanisms work, and imparts skills that can allow one to bypass locks with lockpicks rather than a key.

Process

What you'll need:

Steps:

  1. Always disarm an unfamiliar locked item first. One never knows what might be trapped.
  2. If a trap was discovered, disarm the item again until the trap is disarmed. If the trap is causing a lot of difficulty, it may be best to look for a more experienced locksmith to disarm the trap instead, as each attempt has a chance to fumble and set the trap off.
  3. pick the locked item. A preferred lockpick may be held in hand, otherwise a lockpick from one's worn containers will be used, if possible. The tension wrench can be anywhere in the lockpicker's inventory.
  4. The auto-repeating lockpick action will continue until the lock is picked or the picker senses they have no chance of opening the lock.

The lockpicking process will degrade a lockpick over time, which will cause rolls with that lockpick to get worse, and the pick will eventually break.

In addition to simple warded locks, more complicated or unfamiliar lock types may be encountered. The lockpicker will be prompted on what to do if they have the skill and/or knowledge required.
