Dodge

Dodge is a skill that improves a character's ability to dodge incoming attacks. It is generally the most widely-applicable primary combat defense method (the others being block and parry), being able to potentially avoid physical attacks of almost any kind. Unfortunately, it is also the most heavily penalized by various factors and situations, such as:

Dodge Mechanics

Dodge rolls are mainly determined by a combination of two primary factors:

  1. Taking the best of 50% of one's Melee skill or 50% of one's Ranged skill (These do not stack with one another).
  2. Taking the best of 75% of one's Dodge skill, or other skills potentially substituted for Dodge in certain situations through abilities such as Graceful Dodge, Cunning Dodge, or Coward's Contingency. (These do not stack with one another.)

Dodge skill substitutions through Abilities

The above-noted substitutions will still only apply 75% of whatever is being substituted in for Dodge skill, as the substitution is being passed for the skill level which is still then going to be multiplied by 75%.

  • In the case of Coward's Contingency, which substitutes 100% of a character's Stealth for Dodge under the right circumstances, the overall bonus would be 75% of 100% of the character's Stealth (Stealth x 1 x .75).
  • Graceful Dodge substituting 85% Acrobatics for Dodge would be 75% of 85% of the character's Acrobatics (Acrobatics x .85 x .75).

Note: Combat-avoidance abilities such as Tumble or Flip are not considered standard dodge rolls, instead using a different formula altogether for their chances of success.
