COGG's accessibility options are found under the options command, particularly the following:

  • options ANSIcolor - With this turned off, items in the room description that would be highlighted with color are instead highlighted with # at the beginning of the word.
  • options Compass - This determines whether the ascii art compass in enabled (default) or disabled.
  • options MoveBrief - This suppresses the room's long description. It is often worthwhile to look to see the long description for new rooms.
  • options Prompt - With this turned off, the prompt will be suppressed instead of displayed after each command. The prompt provides several useful pieces of information, to obtain the relevant information on demand, use the status command. You can also obtain the same information as the prompt one piece at a time using the following commands: position, energy, balance, encumbrance, hunger, experience, morale, sanity, health, risk
  • options ShowRolls - With this turned off, combat output will be reduced and will not show numeric results. You can use the combat command to estimate your roll maximums and the consider command will give you sizing up info against some opponents.
  • options RoomCond - With this turned off, the temperature, weather, and wind will be suppressed instead of displayed next to room names. You can obtain this information with the weather command. Be mindful of the temperature as staying in a place that is too cold (listed as cold or freezing) for too long can cause energy loss and frostbite (cold will not directly cause death).
  • options RoomEnv - With this turned off, the room's environment codes will be suppressed instead of displayed next to room names. You can obtain this information with the environment command.
  • options ShowExits - With this turned off, the room's exits will be suppressed instead of displayed at the end of the room description and contents. You can see a list of obvious exits in the room with the exits command. Note that some exits are not obvious and must be searched for or found by looking behind or under things in the room.

Navigation

You can sometimes use the peer command to gain information about adjacent rooms (peer is blocked by weather such as fog, or environmental conditions such as heavily forested areas or darkness). When on the wilderness map, you can use the travel command to move along the roads until the next fork, or even string together several directions to automatically pick the next direction at the next fork (such as travel n ne to begin traveling north on the current road and then traveling along the road to the northeast at the next fork).

Hunger

You cannot die directly of starvation, but low nutrition levels will cause decreased energy regeneration rates, and with 0 nutrition remaining energy will only replenish to a very low amount, making combat extremely dangerous. Nutrition is decreased by recovering energy, and is also decreased significantly by traveling on the wilderness map. You will automatically consume food while moving on the wilderness map to keep nutrition above 60% and will begin receiving warnings with each additional room change when you have run out of food. It is advised that you carry a substantial amount of food when traveling on the wilderness map. You can find out how much food you have in open containers by using the food command.
