Tracking

Tracking is the ability to identify tracks left by creatures on the ground, and combines well with the stealth skill for hunting wild game.

While Tracking is useful for seeing where people and creatures have been and are going in general, it's particularly useful for hunting game. Many wild animals avoid humans and heavily-trafficked paths, and so must be tracked if one is to find and take them down.

Increased Tracking skill imparts the following bonuses:

  • Less roundtime
  • Ability to see older tracks
  • Greater chance to identify details about specific tracks (light shod vs heavy shod footprints, animal types, if something was being dragged etc.)
  • Less penalty to identifying specific tracks in heavily-trafficked areas
  • Increased chances to find animals when hunting
  • Ability to find some unique types of creatures when hunting

Tracking benefits from the Awareness primary attribute, and to a lesser extent, Intuition.

Usage

To look for tracks of creatures that have passed through the immediate area, use the track command.

To look for animal tracks off the beaten paths, use the hunt command (stealth skill is recommended).
