Tanning
From COGG
Jump to navigationJump to searchTanning is the process of turning raw pelts into tanned leather or fur.
(Tanning doesn't currently require any particular skill to perform, though it will likely require one of either Skinning or Leatherworking in the future once the matter has been further considered.)
Process
What you'll need:
Cleaning and Brining
clean
the raw pelt.put
the cleaned pelt into a brining trough.- Let the pelt soak and brine until it becomes "briny."
De-hairing (Optional)
(Skip these steps if you want fur instead of leather)
put
the pelt into the barrel of vile-smelling water (and try not to think of what it's soaking up in there).- Let it soak in that gross water for a few minutes.
get
the pelt out of the barrel.scrape
the fur off the fetid pelt.
Tanning
put
some tannin into the leather-tanning tub. (You can repeat this until the water looks murky enough that it won't let you put any more in.)put
the pelt/hide into the leather-tanning tub.- Let the pelt/hide soak until it becomes tanned fur/leather.
get
your tanned fur/leather out of the tanning tub.
Notes
- See the article on tannin which explains how to acquire it.
