Shadow Familiar is an ability that can be learned by characters.

  • IC description: Efforts between the Warlocks and members of Rook Parlour have resulted in a relatively simple means of summoning shadow familiars. A shadow familiar is essentially a small portion of a Warlock's own soul that has been augmented by ambient nether to become its own independent - but mostly loyal - entity. While normally accomplished by a more complex ritual known only to the Parlour, the Rooks have provided specially-prepared ritual components in the form of large rook feathers to accomplish this more easily. A sorcerer need simply take one of the prepared feathers to a nether-well - a site with exceptional flows of ambient nether - and cut their palm with a dagger, spread the blood over the feather's surface, and channel sorcery to call the ambient nether toward the bloodied talisman. The shadow familiar should form on its own from there and follow the sorcerer dutifully. The familiar will serve as a status symbol and may occasionally act to protect its master from harm. Further training and abilities may unlock additional uses for the familiar. If a familiar is in danger of dissipating, the Essence Transfer ritual can be used to restore the familiar's own essence.
  • OOC description: (Summon a shadow familiar that will occasionally prevent incoming melee or ranged attacks based on the summoner's Sorcery skill vs the target's applicable Melee or Ranged skill. Requires a large glossy black rook feather and a charged blood talisman both provided by the Warlock class shop, a knife of some kind to draw blood, and a nether-well site. Nether-wells can be detected by using the sorcery command while in, or being channeling sorcery while entering, such rooms. Costs 500 <<experience>> and 50 soul shreds to cast.)
  • Usage: While channeling sorcery, cast familiar. The familiar command can be used to issue some basic commands to the familiar.
