Skill Practice is required in order to advance most skills. A skill can only be increased to a maximum of 25 over whatever their current Practice level is for that skill. A list of skills and their associated Practice levels can be seen in the output of the skills command. A specific skill's practice level can also be seen by typing skill <skillname>, e.g. skill fishing.

"Practice" involves simply making active use of the skill. Woodworking practice would be accomplished by crafting woodworked items, for instance. Melee or Ranged skills would be practiced by going out and defeating foes with those skills, though only against foes that are challenging enough to grant experience.

Example: If Greg has 10 Fishing skill practice, he can only train Fishing to 35 (10 + 25) total at a skill trainer. He must then raise the Fishing skill's practice in order to train the skill higher.

The following skills do not require practice. Or rather, their Practice level is automatically increased to maximum upon training, and so no practice effort is required.

The spirit behind the Practice idea is that characters must actually make some use of and get real experience with the skills they intend to be good at, while not being too much of a grind. Tweaks are likely to be ongoing as that sweet spot is sought out.
