Masonry is the general ability to carve, shape, and treat stone, crafting it into useful or decorative items.

Carving

What you'll need:

  • Some stone to carve, depending on the project.
  • Tools, depending on the project (nearly everything requires a chisel and something to pound with, such as a hammer).

Steps

  1. Have the base piece of stone you wish to work with in hand or on the ground.
  2. Use the carve command to target the piece of stone and show a list of your options. Example: carve large chunk of sandstone
  3. carve <piece> make <option> to begin working on the project. Example: carve medium sandstone block make flatware plate. You will be prompted to provide any additional required tools or components if they are missing.

Notes

  • Greater skill can unlock more advanced "recipes".
  • Chunks of stone are likely to virtually always be easily available, given how much stone miners go through in order to find ores. Considering how plentiful and cheap stone tends to be at the market, you'll have little need to befriend a miner, let alone take up mining yourself, in order to acquire large amounts of stone to work with.
  • Befriend a metalworker to help make, repair, and replace your tools.
