Crit threshold
(NOTE! This feature has been disabled in the live game.)
The crit threshold is a property of a damage type that determines when a critical blow will be dealt. If a single instance of damage dealt is equal to or greater than its damage type's crit threshold percentage of a vital hit location, it will result in the instant death of the target.
Example:
- A typical human's head, which is a vital hit location, has 100 hit points.
- Bludgeon damage has a crit threshold of .7, or 70%.
So, if a completely healthy and unwounded human takes 70 bludgeon damage (after damage reduction) to their head in a single hit, they will die, even though their head would still have 30 remaining hit points, due to the damage being sufficient to trigger that hit location's crit threshold.
Tip: Wearing armor is an excellent way to help one avoid dying to critical hits. Even quilted cloth or soft leather provide a significant amount of protection.
