I just want to say that I am a MASSIVE Age-of-Sail nerd and I've been beside myself with anticipation ever since I found out about Orris' sloop and that a sailing system might be coming out.

I've wanted for years and years to play a MUD with a sailable ships and a well-constructed sailing mechanism. I don't believe one existed, until now. And to be honest, I was halfway dreading seeing it in COGG even while I was droolingly anticipating it. I am very snobbish and picky about this kind of thing, even though in real life I couldn't sail my way out of a paper bag. I'm strictly an armchair mariner, having learnt everything I know from Patrick O'Brian and from reading naval history and stuff.

I was honestly expecting to find tons of little things to stare down my nose and sneer about. (Not that I wasn't going to keep my jerkish opinions to myself!) But everything is just lovely. Just absolutely lovely. The sloop's beautifully and lovingly crafted, and the sailing mechanics are very much the same.

Thank you so much, to everyone involved. Staff, and Orris' player. And everyone involved in the RP surrounding this stuff! I look forward to seeing ships and sailing expanded upon in COGG eventually, but for the moment, I had a magical experience tonight, and I'm very grateful for it.

Thank you for your post. I'll admit there was no small of amount of anxiety in wanting to try and get things right as much as possible. I love all this kind of thing, but I've never really sat down and seriously read up on it or consumed material based around it beyond some casual entertainment and my internet research for this project. I know there are a lot of people who are really passionate about this stuff and I was hoping to do right by you all. I'm glad it's been not-terrible at the very least! And if there are any mistakes or misconceptions or terms that aren't being used correctly, whether that's in descriptions or mechanics (or anything else), please do submit a bug report about it or post queries/suggestions/corrections on the BBS. I'm happy to correct things and won't be offended at being corrected. (Though I also reserve the right to some Fantasy Liberties.) I grew up playing the heck out of Monkey Island, riding the Disneyland Pirates of the Caribbean ride, and listening my grandpa's stories of his time in the U.S. Navy (survived Pearl Harbor), so I've got enough of both interest and respect to want to try and get things right!
