New England Hurricane Warning

Post by Marcuson »

(Note: I am not a meteorologist. Listen to local news and heed any official advisories.)

If you live in New England in the United States or the Maritimes in Canada -- especially in Maine and Nova Scotia -- be aware that Hurricane Lee is currently on track to make landfall along the North Atlantic Coast. Expect the effects of Hurricane Lee to begin arriving as early as Friday evening (September 15).

Though the hurricane is expected to weaken in intensity as it moves north over cooler waters, its windfield will broaden; Lee will bring tropical storm-force winds, coastal flooding, and heavy rainfall over a wide portion of the region. If you live directly on the coast or in an area prone to flooding, pay close attention to local coverage and be ready to take action.

DON'T walk or drive through floodwaters; six inches of fast-moving water can knock you over, and twelve inches can carry away most cars.

You can find additional advisories at the National Hurricane Center's official website:

Make sure to follow weather forecasts and take a moment to locate a reliable source of up-to-date local news and advisories for your specific area. Stay safe.
