The Intensive Care Unit - for when you can't find a PC physicker

Post by Serity »

Ansarian made this joke in Discord in response to PC-Physicker-required things:
Ansarian wrote:Go to infirmary

'You will be submitting yourself for medical examination and treatment for the next 24 hours. Repeat this command if you would like to continue.'
(Just a joke based on the various other repairs in the game.)
And after a few seconds, several of us chimed in with agreement that it would actually be a pretty good idea with some minor adjustments to the above:
  • Not necessarily 24 hours, but perhaps 6 or 8 - Ansarian added that it would be a trade for the +2 morale of sleeping in a comfy bed, and perhaps an actual morale loss because staying in a hospital sucks. This may be the simplest way of implementing it - straight up replace 'good night's rest' with 'and now all your fractures and frostbite and tummy-aches have been cured and also -2 morale because sorry about the hospital food. And also you now have a debt of 500 riln'. (numbers are placeholders)
  • Perhaps it is at a more central location, like the Library of Qamar, who can have the extra staff around the clock to monitor patients (and they're the home of the Scholars/Physickers anyways!). Sorry to the player who's banned from Qamar. All interns have been trained. Probably.
Benefits:
  • It would solve physicker problems for way off-hours people - they can just log off at the hospital, and be good as new the next time they want to play at 3 AM, tended to over the long period of time by the doctors at the hospital.
  • If the physicker PCs don't feel like playing their character for a while (sometimes people want vacations!), or retire it, or nobody picks up the slack, people aren't entirely out of luck, they can use an NPC service similar to existing repairs.
  • There are now actual reasons to log off somewhere that's not just your inn room.
  • It might encourage alt-playing more, if people have to be logged out for a period of time for some mechanic.
  • It's also just kind of thematically cool to have a place (for your party) to log out after you get obliterated by the fjelbeists besides going to sleep it off.
Possible other things:
  • Maybe you have to 'change' out of your gear into a hospital gown, like the bath-houses.
  • Ideally, there will be a 'time remaining until heal...' in the character menu counting down the time until you can log back in, to avoid prematurely resetting the timer (unless someone wishes to leave the hospital care early, of course).
  • The room's change mechanic should not equip any ESP pendants, and/or should have an ESP jammer to dissuade people from (at least ICly) checking out and running over to an existing physicker they couldn't possibly know is on duty. And also because hospitals should be quiet in the first place.
