Masonry and Mining combined into Stoneworking

Because there are too many crafting/profession skills for each to have its own forum.

Masonry and Mining combined into Stoneworking

Post by Rias »

Per the changelog: The Masonry skill and the Mining skill have been combined into the new Stoneworking skill, which fills both roles. The Stoneworking skill will allow a character to both mine and craft stone items; no commands or mechanics have otherwise changed. Characters who had points invested into the Masonry skill have had those skill points refunded. Characters who had Mining skill have had those skill points converted to Stoneworking.

Masonry has long been a woefully underdeveloped skill, with mining not far in front of it. Seeing as suggestions for Masonry have always been a bit sparse and it seemed like there weren't a whole lot of ideas to give it significant depth (although there have been ideas to give it some, granted), we decided to just combine the two into the single Stoneworking skill. This precedes some updates to mining and associated ability tree development which will have separate paths for the mining side and the masonry crafting side. The two won't be exclusive, it'll just take some extra ability point investment to be able to do both activities associated with this single skill. This seemed better than having two separate very shallow skills that were unnecessarily eating up limited skill points for minimal returns.
