Loot Luck based on combat challenge
Re: Loot Luck based on combat challenge
One thing we're also looking at is specific monsters having modifiers to luck, much like they can with experience for harder mobs.
I've also been intending to look deeper into zones and their riln income with Shewel, see if some zones aren't paying out as much as their danger warrants.
As it is, I feel Warriors are certainly capable of earning riln just with combat though it can definitely feel like a slow start and a lot more dangerous than what other professions may be doing.

Re: Loot Luck based on combat challenge
This may be utterly the wrong thread for it, but I feel now might be a decent time to bring it up; have the staff ever considered some sort of a 'pull punches' or willfully lowering combat stats mechanic? For example, 'sync 200' would allow a higher level character to (temporarily) have all their combat-category skills lowered to 200 (including dodge/etc, even though I don't think difficulty takes that into account), so a skilled combatant could party with and escort low-level players without bringing pain to the lower levels' earnings, and still receive experience. It would be useful for sparring and other similar cases too, and could alleviate some of the grinding pain points where a player may not want to visit whatever currently-relevant level area there might be for RP reasons (infestation, netherim, canim, etc).
Re: Loot Luck based on combat challenge
If might be misunderstanding something. If you're staying to areas that are in your skill level, your loot experience should be unaffected by this update.
You make a lot of good discussion points on the warrior experience, but I don't want it to derail this current thread on the Loot Luck updates which I am still hoping to get feedback on, so I've split your post to a new thread in the Warrior Guild board over here.

Re: Loot Luck based on combat challenge
How badly will this affect groups where one is significantly more skilled than the other? For example, when I just want to mentor the rooky and help them gain more experience? Will I be affecting the loot payoff greatly?

.
You will be, yeah. Or at least I did in my one test. But it's obviously fine if you take them to a combat zone that your character's level is more aligned with.
Re: Loot Luck based on combat challenge
If there are systems in place to prevent team members with low skill levels PURELY to loot corpses, are there systems in place to determine when the lower leveled combatant is a legitimate team member?
I have 350 ranged, and my partner has 700 melee. hunting in anything weaker than tanglewood or the fjelbiests grants no skill practice and no experience for them. I'm not tagging along just to be a dedicated looter, but are we being affected by the reduced loot luck because they get the majority of the kills? That seems unfair to me. and while it may be something "not discussed in game" because it is a purely ooc mechanic... how do we play around it ICly? Why does the mounted person have to dismount after every kill to loot, otherwise our loot is terrible? Do we just knowingly get terrible loot while hunting because it only "makes sense" for the unmounted person to loot instead? Does one person get 0 skill practice and 0 experience for the entirety of the hunt because we have to go to a lower difficulty area to avoid the penalty? Do we just have to never hunt together so we can both get good loot/practice/experience at the same time because I decided to get trade skills instead of combat skills?

Your group loot shouldn't suffer if lower skilled people loot higher skilled bad guys.redfox wrote: ↑Tue Apr 25, 2023 11:36 am If there are systems in place to prevent team members with low skill levels PURELY to loot corpses, are there systems in place to determine when the lower leveled combatant is a legitimate team member?

From Rias' first post on the thread
To get an idea of whether a mob will produce less Loot Luck, use the CONSIDER command on it. If it says it'd be a pretty even fight (or anything harder than that) you'll get the full Loot Luck. If it's less than an even fight, the amount of riln and lockbox chances will diminish, and quite steeply.

would full loot be generated if a lower skilled group member looted from a kill of a higher skilled individual?
It shouldn't. This is what I meant when I said "We've got some systems in place to prevent silliness like designated low-skill looters." That said, if it seems like it's not working, please do BUG it.
Re: Loot Luck based on combat challenge
Presumably that was in the context of a higher skilled PC helping a lower skilled PC kill lower skilled mobs - but I'm not Rias nor Navi so I can't really speak for those two and the intent behind the Q&A. That's my read on it however, since assuming low-skilled PCs looting high skilled mobs kills the loot runs entirely counter to the first post (and it would mean that warriors that fight mobs that are harder than they can handle would be penalized).redfox wrote: ↑Tue Apr 25, 2023 11:46 am Rias' second post on the thread:

Re: Loot Luck based on combat challenge
In this example, the group wouldn't suffer. Rias is specifically referring to people attempting to get around the systems put in place by doing something like just having the lowest level person in a situation loot to get better loot. They would get loot as though it was slain by the highest skill out of the group.redfox wrote: ↑Tue Apr 25, 2023 11:46 am Rias' second post on the thread:
