OOC In-Game Questions 18 March, 2023

Post by silly »

Apologies for being extremely late on this. Here goes.

You say, "Oh, I just wanted to ask if y'all can read the letters people write to naia, or if they do get deleted from the game entirely :D."
You nod to Agelity.
** You have ceded the floor to Agelity.
Speaking to you, Rias says, "Maybe."
You nod your head thoughtfully.
Agelity says, "I'm not sure I really have something specific in mind, as there's a ton going on right now in dev land and in RP land. So, without really any ongoing plotlines or anything that are occurring, as I'm mainly curious if there's a rough order of releases or things to look forward to in the near future, or if it's still a little ad hoc for now as certain things get settled into place."
Rias says, "As much as I like to keep Immortal-related stuff foggy, I guess I can answer that more definitively though. We can see them. It's nice to give us a glimpse of what that character's thinking or going through, even if I won't answer whether the Immortal Naia, if she does truly exist, sees them."
You turn toward Rias and cheer!
Speaking to Agelity, Rias exclaims, "I don't do anything that isn't ad-hoc!"
Agelity says, "Fair."
Agelity grins.
Chariot chuckles.
Gocu raises her hand.
Agelity nods to Gocu.
** Agelity has ceded the floor to Gocu.
Rias says, "Right now I'm mostly juggling getting the Rook Parlour areas ready, importing some more areas, and prepping to have an ongoing event to have its current arc resolved."
Gocu says, "Rias, I want to speak with you regarding something practical. Would it be possible to add a sawmill near mistral? It would make things so much better for the townfolk."
Prism applauds.
Rias says, "Mistral has a sawmill over by the farms. You have to ride the barge over to it."
Agelity nods to Rias.
Gocu asks, "Oh, but does it have the machine?"
Rias says, "It does everything the Shadgard sawmill does, as far as I'm aware."
Deborah nods.
Gocu says, "Well then. Sorry for that."
Rias exclaims, "Now you know!"
Chariot raises his hand.
Gocu nods to Chariot.
** Gocu has ceded the floor to Chariot.
Chariot says, "Small request please: usually when you look at a climbable area that you can manage, it says it may involve some risk."
Chariot says, "Which, in my experience, may as well involve lotsa risk."
Chariot asks, "Could it be made just a tad more descriptive in the future while you're at it?"
Rias asks, "As in how damaging fall might be?"
Chariot says, "I think that one's already in, but instead of just "some risk", it may as well be some or a lot of risk. It's usually really hard to climb some of them even with some risk."
Rias says, "Ah. All right, maybe we'll be a little more indicative of the challenge."
Chariot says, "Something like may envolve slight risk, some risk or great risk or whatever along that line is what I mean."
Chariot nods.
Eugor raises his hand.
Chariot nods to Eugor.
** Chariot has ceded the floor to Eugor.
Eugor says, "Wow, that was... painless. Right, so my question involves storytelling. The helpfile says that 50 points of storytelling equals one observation from the crowd, but right now that isn't the case. Sometimes it gives me five, and other times it only gives me three. Is this intentional, and will be worked on later, or a bug."
Rias says, "It might be that weird bug where sometimes the storytelling checks get stuck and it never finishes, saying you've learned all you can."
Rias says, "Rather, it never gets to the point where it says you've learned all you can, but gets stuck in a loop."
Eugor nods.
Deborah raises her hand.
Eugor points at Deborah.
** Eugor has ceded the floor to Deborah.
Gorth raises his hand.
Deborah asks, "So, the question is simple. I remember one time someone said that for a Bard, the linguistics can only be studied, not practiced with words. IS there anything I didn't get?"
Deborah says, "Words, i mean abilities. Word of wwander and so on."
Rias says, "Nope, linguistics is very underdeveloped at the moment, and using Words doesn't increase practice."
Deborah says, "Ah, right. Thank you."
Deborah nods to Gorth.
** Deborah has ceded the floor to Gorth.
Gorth asks, "Unsure if my questions have been answered. Let me know if they have. Are there anti-poaching laws anywhere? Who enforces them, if so?"
Rias says, "Whoever feels they have the right to over the region in question. I imagine the Dominion probably has some laws about it, though they're not mechanically enforced at the moment. They're pretty mindful of resource management in their area."
Gorth asks, "Rest of the world? Any prized animals people don't like to be killed in specific places?"
Chariot chuckles.
Rias says, "I'm sure there are, but no details I can think of off the top of my head."
Tulpa raises his hand.
Gorth asks, "[FROM Eugor]: Follow up, is it reasonable to assume if an area spawns huntable skinnable critters that there is an over abundence of that critter there, and is probably exempt from concepts like over hunting?"
Rias says, "Not so sure about that. If someone is sitting on a mountain of 50+ wildlife corpses (it has happened), just because it's mechanically possible doesn't mean we might not have it cause some sort of effect."
Gorth says, "Sorry, Ursun. Alright, carrying on."
Gorth exclaims, "Are there places known for their swamps? Gators!"
Agelity raises her hand.
Gorth points at Tulpa.
** Gorth has ceded the floor to Tulpa.
Rias says, "None in-game, but absolutely some planned. Those who are familiar with Gaslight Swamp can look forward to its return. If you mean more about general world regions, Tatlhuecatn has a good amount of wetland environments as well."
Fellborn says, "The Dominion certainly has a keen interest in ensuring the sustainability of the resources they have available to them."
Gorth agrees with Fellborn.
Tulpa removes a sandstone teardrop charm from his heavy canvas backpack (open).
Tulpa carefully examines a sandstone teardrop charm.
Tulpa moves as though to tie the charm around his neck, using the hole expressly designed for that purpose, but somehow the laws of the universe forbid it.
Tulpa eyes Rias with a melancholy expression.
Tulpa nods to Agelity.
** Tulpa has ceded the floor to Agelity.
Prism applauds Tulpa.
Gorth turns toward Tulpa and cheers!
You agree with Tulpa.
Rias says, "Someday."
Chariot chuckles at Tulpa.
Agelity asks, "Related to sustainability practices, I actually wanted to know if there were any specific words written about the Woodland Preservation Act IC that people can point to or if there are plans for some (instead of a more nebulous seemingly self-explanatory name). If not, what would be the assumed level of knowledge that people would have of it?"
Rias says, "I'm always hesitant to write out the specifics of things like that because then it becomes a case of Find the Loophole, but it would probably be good to have at least some of the details. I didn't have any of the details in mind when that was mentioned, it was just there to show that there's at least an attempt at some mindfulness in the region by the NPCs, if not the PCs."
Gorth raises his hand. (You may point or nod at them if you wish to give them the floor.)
You point at Gorth.
** You have ceded the floor to Gorth.
Speaking to Rias, Gorth asks, "Will you marry me?"
Deborah laughs!
Chariot chuckles at Gorth.
Chariot raises his hand.
Rias says, "And we're done."
Gorth beams happily!
Gorth points at Chariot.
** Gorth has ceded the floor to Chariot.
Vazbol laughs!
Chariot says, "Last question: food/drink flavor text pleasy pleasy? I'm still sniffling at the disappearance of cool coco flavor text.:(."
Tessa laughs!
Agelity raises her hand.
Rias says, "Easy to do but low priority. Feel free to post suggestions for items that don't have it."
Chariot says, "The coco used to have it though. I wonder who removed it."
Chariot nods to Agelity.
** Chariot has ceded the floor to Agelity.
Rias says, "It wasn't deliberately removed, the old item was just deleted when it was removed last time and had to be re-created."
Agelity says, "I was actually really curious about how certain races & regions tend to view certain immortals; we know that harbingers have some alternative methods of belief regarding specific immortals, but for some them (Hesutu in particular) I'm really interested in knowing how those differing backgrounds would also view them, or some general beliefs regarding them that may differ from elsewhere."
Tulpa agrees with Agelity.
Rias says, "If they're not in the current helpfile, it's likely because I just haven't come up with those specifics yet."
Tulpa raises his hand.
Rias says, "For the new Immortals on the block I wanted to get their general info out without necessarily having to hold it back by coming up with the regional differences. I think Nereia and Naia are also missing that info."
Rias says, "Er, Nereia is. Naia isn't."
Agelity says, "I figured it was something of the case. At least for myself I had some interest in how the Viali in particular tend to view those Immortals, but for those without those snippets I'll work with what's there."
Agelity points at Tulpa.
** Agelity has ceded the floor to Tulpa.
Deborah raises her hand.
Tulpa asks, "I have a couple of questions, one off the back of that. Are we permitted to come up with rough concepts for primal spirits celebrated or known within a small community, say a village?"
Tulpa says, "This is for backstory purposes."
Rias says, "Maybe throw the idea to the general cogg(at)contrarium.net email address. Immortals lore is something we're particularly protective of, and we don't want assumptions to lead to something that might require a retcon once GMs catch wind of it."
Tulpa asks, "Right. Number 2 is about houseboats! How is the Mistral Lake ferry powered? Does it have some sort of engine, or is it a sailing ship? Are there, or would there have been canal boats in Valeria?"
Tulpa murmurs, "Just boats. Yeah. I like 'em."
Agelity raises her hand.
Rias says, "I want to answer the Mistral barge one with how I've always imagined it, but I'm hesitating to so I'm going to rain check that one and think about it a bit more. Once I'm happy with just how it works, I'll update the description or something like that to better indicate it."
Deborah lowers her hand.
Rias says, "Valeria was a decent-sized city and had some boats on their canal, for sure. They've got that one spot with steps leading down to a little landing near the water level that's like a little dock."
Tulpa says, "So potentially there was an exodus of former residents via the canals to the sea? Hmmm! You don't have to answer that."
Tulpa nods to Agelity.
** Tulpa has ceded the floor to Agelity.
Agelity asks, "Related to boats, and a little more lighthearted curiosity on my end, are their any other regions known for gondolas, be it for transport, touring (for the affluent family), etc.?"
Rias says, "Seems like a Viali and Khaldean thing, for the cities on rivers."
Agelity says, "How convenient for my character backstories, give me some new ideas to chew on."
Agelity grins.
Agelity looks around the room for hands.
Deborah raises her hand.
Rias exclaims, "Chew away!"
Agelity nods to Deborah.
** Agelity has ceded the floor to Deborah.
Gorth raises his hand.
Deborah asks, "Two questions. So, I saw that in Mistral it is possible to train construction, which is a skill that has recipes only till 300, up to 400. Have we got any plan that made so that you set it that way?"
Rias says, "Just that 400 is the standard non-specialist-guild/class cap."
Deborah says, "Ah, ok. Second question is, I was wandering how can builders brand their products, if I can say like this. I didn't get how artisans will be able to do so once the guild will be released."
Rias says, "Construction gets a little tricky because it can technically be the putting-together of a bunch of things that the builder didn't make themselves. But it would probably be fine to let them brand the overall work with their crafting mark."
Deborah says, "Like, let's say, I can stamp my craftmark with a footlocker in hand, or a crate, or chest or whatever it is, but the comes with larger things."
Rias says, "We'd have to come up with a command to do so since most construction items can't be held in hand to use the modify command on."
Rias rubs his chin thoughtfully.
Rias says, "Maybe not 'most', but many."
Deborah says, "Apply brand at itemName or something like that."
Rias says, "Yeah, we'll figure something out for that."
Deborah says, "That's great."
Deborah points at Gorth.
** Deborah has ceded the floor to Gorth.
Gorth chews on Agelity.
Gorth asks, "And now I'm done. Anyone else?"
** Gorth falls unconscious!
Gorth has been defeated.
A pair of medics run in, heave Gorth onto a stretcher, and haul him off to be resuscitated.
** The floor has been ceded. The next person to raise hand will take the floor.
(Speech and other actions are no longer restricted to one individual at a time in this room.)
Gorth arrives via a hallway.
Gorth exclaims, "Valid!"
Chariot laughs!
Vazbol cackles!
Agelity smirks.
Speaking to Gorth, Chariot says, "Serves."
Gorth exclaims, "Rias said to chew away!"
Vazbol says, "Rude."
Rias exclaims, "I think we can wrap up the Q&A then, thanks for the questions and the suggestions!"
Using your hands, you work at washing a wash basin at a wash basin.
A wash basin is now clean.
