Fey Forest Song

Post by Teri »

Promised someone I would post this if they missed it so, here goes. Sung by Hreidun at the competition, braved with a cup of vodka infused hot chocolate. Ending inspired... by running out of time to write as one does.

Hreidun slowly paces as she begins.

You slowly sing:

The sun comes
and the morning dew fades
Shadows meander through forests and glades

You softly sing:

rejoice for the sun is here
rejoice outside the shadows
for there is little to fear

Hreidun shifts her posture, her brows knitting together into a frown as she sings.

You repetitiously sing:

the sun is here
the sun is here
sun is here

Hreidun allows the more hopeful tone to fade as her voice turns mournful.

You slowly sing:

but there is one place,
man avoids without shame
only a few paces
fools enter with themselves to blame

Hreidun stops her slow pacing, beginning to sway.

You liltingly sing:

Maybe ought to pray
maybe ought to fear
the Forest of the Fey
bane of Gudleifr

Hreidun drops her voice to a lower tone as she stills, staring upwards.

You ominously sing:

Look down into the shadows black
look at up at the trees with tainted crowns
the leaves peeled back
their roots grown deep down

You hauntingly sing:

the spirits broken
you don't belong
they may be faded
but they are strong

You softly sing:

step into the maze
try to step back
You have gone sideways
and off track

You remove a painted black pine wraith mask from the thick leather back-pouch (open) you are
wearing.

You put a painted black pine wraith mask on your head.

You sing:

one will lose all faith
in a forest known
twisted and terrible wraith
their prey piles of bone

You take off a painted black pine wraith mask.

You repetitiously sing:

the sun is gone
the sun is gone
sun is gone

You softly sing:

lost to madness
lured astray
melodies of sadness
their wills swayed

You warblingly sing:

Lost all his horses
all his men
his tyranny not to be seen again

You softly sing:

some Hillfolk escaped
some horses spared
The truths of such
difficult to air

You repetitiously sing:

the sun is not there
the sun is not there
sun is not there

Hreidun begins to sway as she lets the note trail off before moving again, her voice pitching higher

Hreidun fidgets before ending.

You softly sing:

the sun is here
along with the oceans deep
with friends who are dear
I hope to keep
Oh no, looks like I might die as I have lived. In the wrong place at the wrong time
