QoL update to viewing and studying arcane glyph plates (etc.)

Post by Rias »

Per the changelog: The STUDY command with no arguments will now list all obvious studyable arcane glyphs in a room. The command can now also target a studyable glyph by matching anything in the glyph's phonetic name (for example: "uyto") or its common description name (for example: "Soundpulling") if the glyph has been clearly labeled, such as those in the Library of Qamar classrooms. The ABILITIES SHOW command will now also note if there are obvious studyable arcane glyphs in the area and will prompt the player to use the study command in order to list them.

Hopefully this will make it a little less wonky and confusing for people trying to figure out how to see and learn arcane glyphs. The Advanced Arcanum Studies room is no longer cluttered with a bunch of glyph plates in the "You also notice" section (they are now background items), and the plates in the public Arcana classroom have been moved to background items as well instead of being seen by typing "look wall". Just walk into the room and type STUDY to see a list of all the glyphs with their phonetic and common-description names. And one can now simply type STUDY UYTO or STUDY SOUNDPULLING instead of trying to match the wall plate item with STUDY UYTO PLATE (although that will still work for people who have gotten into the habit).

Note that some glyph-teaching items may not be so obvious and therefore will not show up in the STUDY command list. (Such "hidden" glyphs are not necessarily meant to be kept secret IC, and arcanists are free to share their locations if so desired - just do so in-character rather than spoiling it on OOC channels such as the BBS or the chat channels.)

This took some getting used to, but I think all the newer arcanists are much appreciative of how easy it is to find and get information on the glyph plates in the area.
