Crash item recovery news

Post by Rias »

Figured this was worth a post so the various affected people will be likely to see:

First of all, if you have a duplicate instance of an item, simply place both of the dupes in the same place (drop them on the floor of the same room, or put them in the same container) and the dupe instance(s) will disappear automatically. DO NOT PUT THE DUPLICATE IN A TRASH BARREL OR LEAVE IT TO BE JANITORED! If one instance gets deleted, any dupe reference to that item will be gone as well.

Several items have been restored to inn rooms, and a few furniture/containers to farms. If some of your stuff went missing from one of those locations, go take a gander.

A ton of items that were saying they should have been worn/held by characters but weren't actually worn/held by those characters have been placed in the mailboxes of their last-recorded wearers/holders. Some of these have been floating in hammerspace from long before the crash, and I suspect some (but not all) of them were meant to be deleted but weren't due to some bug and were left disowned in the void rather than being deleted completely. If you suspect this is the case feel free to toss the item in the garbage, but after looking over the list none of these seem like they'd break the game if the owner held onto them even though they were supposed to be used up as part of a crafting process and bugged or some other similar circumstance. Don't worry too much about it if you have no idea whether it should have been deleted or not. Follow the guidance of your conscience and your heart.

Thank you all for your patience in the aftermath of the crash! We're still searching out more items and we'll go over emails again to double-check on items still missing after the above automated recoveries. For those who missed the roundtable, I did talk about a new system we're on that should A) have the server running more smoothly and B) make any future crashes far less painful. Here's hoping it doesn't get put to the test anytime soon!
