New "heft" property for weapon materials

Post by Rias »

Per the changelog: Weapons with a strike component made of bloodglass, bronze, fjelbrons, or kobaltarn now enjoy a small "heft" bonus to bludgeon, crush, hack, and puncture damage types. The materials page has been updated to reflect this.

Hopefully this will make bronze more sought out as a mundane metal, and it has always been the intent for fjelbrons eventually. It made sense to add to bloodglass and kobaltarn as well. It's also a potential add to some special wood types that could be heavier. Smashywood cudgels!

Oh, it should probably be added to flint as well. Hmmm.

Also, heft does stack with sharpness for things like axes. Neither bonus is huge, so hopefully this doesn't make axes overpowered, but honest feedback will be much appreciated.

Heavier weapons/tools will probably very soon have some minor energy usage increase, as they're literally heavier. This will be cancelled out by those with above-average strength via primary attribute or various abilities. More ideas and suggestions are welcome!

I'd love to see this for special woods, and for flint. I think that given that flint tools and weapons can't be repaired, it'd be very good against specific enemies, but the low durability would balance it out against anything that has even a bit of armor.

Also very much in favor of getting the heft bonus in exchange for the slightly higher energy costs - given that knapping and otherwise using a hatchet as a tool doesn't seem to use any durability, that seems more than fair.
