I've been having fun with a character running wild elsewhere and pondering ways to confuse others trying to find her, including how she can lay false tracks.
If tracking will be a thing here (It's amazing IMHO with all of its potential)
my suggestion is- allow someone- maybe with a related skill- to also use other things like branches, horseshoes etc to lay down false tracks
and 2.
To carefully hide signs of their own tracks so that they fade faster.
