Voicechat Notes - 1 October

Post by Zombilicious »

Q: Is the naming scheme for Hillfolk any different in Parr, or is it still English and more rarely Welsh?
A: It's probably about the same. They might have some differences, with cultural trends that are different from the mainland. Maybe he'll add the information sometime; it's not wildly different or anything.

Q: I noticed that many of the answers on names are with regard to race OR culture, the latter I have taken to mean "homeland" ask picked during character creation. So... does the Lost Lands have any traditional naming conventions? Do we know the naming conventions of old Aetgard / has such convention survived?
A: A lot of old Aetgard are Faewyr-flavored; that's how it started, after all. He can see the Lost Lands having come with their own stuff/Aetgard. He'll have to update the Naming Document that Nobody created.

Q: What is the Woodland Preservation Act referenced in the sawmill sign?
A: That's just a thing Shadgard came up with as a means to not over forest their area. It was done as a result of some people in the druid community/eco-warriors/rich people who like fancy people, and possibly Dunwyr Fear not wanting ire. It's also a nice way to impose fines. Capitalism! (However, it is not mechanically enforced.)

Q: Any Giant-related lore that can be revealed? Are they similar to Jotunn, or are they literally giant humanoids?
A: Most people agree that they can take physical human forms, but they're also spirits/forces. So they can take human form. But there are plenty of legends that involve them taking other forms, including intangible forms to move place to place. They could be "monsters" (they aren't bears or stags or anything); beasts/creatures that aren't well-described because there's no modern/common analog to them.

Q: The last time you posted regarding Societies, you mentioned a class you were working on. Can you tell us about it? Or guild-class stuff, in particular, being worked on? Any class updates?
A: He has plans for a warrior class that specialize on anti-occult stuff! This includes druidry, sorcery and arcana. THEY ARE NOT WITCH HUNTERS. They just train in negation/hindering techniques. Other than that, nothing solid is in his brain. It's full of mush and liquid and creative void-mass of thought.

Q: What type of crystal are the ESP pendants? Anything specific? Or just a crystal?
A: Like the anomalous chalk, the ESP crystals have no classification.

Q: Who makes the ESP pendants? Are they created by normal people? Are they magically created?
A: This is the mystery! It's lost technology! FEAR IT, AND ITS MAGICAL CAPABILITIES!

Q: When are we releasing gems for mining?
A: He doesn't know. It wouldn't be terribly difficult, but he's hyper-focused on a couple of things right now. Fairly soonish[tm]. He has to remember to do it. (Remember to remind him after Octum, guys.)

Q: More combat zones when?

A: When they happen.

Q: Exile flag when?
A: He keeps forgetting about it.

Q: Republic are who?
A: One group of Exiles who decided they want to unionize. Despite having a fancy name, they aren't particularly well-off, as opposed to the Dominion.

Q: Any thought on when we can make Physicker tonics for curing poisons and ailments?
A: They're in the pipeline! As far as when, Rias is unsure; he has a lot to do with them. The next Scholar that's going to get a lot of love is the Arcanist! Feel joy, Arcanists, you are next. Rias is, however, excited for Physickers and wants to give them lots of new stuff.

Q: Is the costume guy actually a vampire, thus giving us a reason why there are no vampire costumes?
A: No comment. (But Zombilicious thinks he's definitely one.)

Q: Someone in-game was wondering about common mythological/folkloric critters like trolls, etc. Do you have a list of what sorts of beasts like that folks could reference to IC?
A: That's a good question. He can throw a list together. Trolls can be assumed to be something that's used, but don't assume they're the same type of trolls you're familiar with. Probably very Faewyr stuff.

Q: Hurling with a bow does work now, but if you attempt to aim a shot with a hurled item, you have to get it out of the bag and THEN aim shot. Unlike normal, which automatically grabs the item. Could we have aim shot/aim hurled item instead?
A: Rias says yes. A toggle or some syntax to specify.

Q: If killing and stealing do not give exp, and the reasoning is to not promote the action, how is CVC conflict reasoned for things like resources and other CVC oriented things like that.
A: There is no logic behind it. Rias simply doesn't feel like stealing and killing do not require giving XP from players.

Q: Can you dual-wield axes?
A: No, dual-wielding here is limited because it gets silly in other games.

Q: Any advice for newcomers that doesn't involve screaming and flailing?
A: Do the tutorial tasks, do Town Hall tasks to earn riln while you figure out what to do. If you want to make money, either take up combat and fight lootable stuff or find a craft you like! The old CLOK advice of "Forage Stuff" is not the best idea here. Don't rush yourself into picking a guild/class! But do it eventually because it opens a lot more potential. Don't be afraid to shelve characters! And you can use SKILL UNLEARN to unlearn choices. You can also use ABILITY UNLEARN to unlearn an ability. There's also an advice thread on the BBS that's stickied.
