Nightblade ability suggestion: Blade twist

Post by Acarin »

I spent some time sifting through the interwebs looking for stiletto and dagger based combat ideas and noted that a few pretty nasty techniques are employed with stilettos and some of the other variations (snake daggers were specifically designed for this purpose). I think this would be really cool and fit with the overall mystique of nightblades. So here it is:

Blade twist:
Moderate passive chance to twist a small bladed weapon like a stiletto or dagger (on a pierce attack) upon a successful attack that causes a moderate or greater wound. The attack will increase the severity of the wound by one level (moderate to bad, bad to severe, severe to mortal) doing some extra damage and opening the wound. Opening the wound results in significantly increased bleeding and increased difficulty for bandaging, suturing, etc.

Basically, take a linear puncture wound and create a larger circular wound that won't stop bleeding...

A couple more:

Critical mass: Causes a shadow orb in the room to rapidly accelerate the pull of light, blacking out the space for a split second before collapses. This gives the nightblade enough time to flank opponents in the room.

Aiming Mastery: Gives passive reduction of 1 second in rt for aiming with a small melee weapon and a small bonus to strike the intended target location.

Precise strike: minor version of mark (toned down) that grants an attack reroll, +10% damage, and greater percent chance of chink and hitting a vital target but does not require a wait and can be performed in the open (or as an ambush)

Shadow steps (redone): after casting, chance to bridge directly to engaged position on an attack attempt, chance to automatically rehide after a melee ambush, and grants silent walking effect.

A few more sorcery ideas for nightblades (and warlocks too)

Living cloak (warlock also): Passive ability (while shadow cloak is up) that causes the cloak to attempt to counter failed melee attacks against the nightblade. The cloak will occasionally lash out with a whip-like tendril when attacked, attempting to stagger, knock down, or briefly bind (and potentially do a very small amount of nether damage) the attacker.

Dark fang: a small weapon (dagger, stiletto, or knife) is coated in an amorphous layer of nether (and description is cloaked to a shadowy blade). The blade takes more damage (25% faster degradation on strikes) due to the corrosive nature of the nether but a successful strike will do a little extra nether damage and leak nether into the wound. If sufficient nether is injected, the opponent may occasionally stagger as the nether continues to degrade flesh (until dissipated).

Blood feeding (good for warlocks too): Automatically cauterize bleeding wounds with nether when channeling or having an active sorcery effect. Extends the duration of all sorcerous effects after "feeding" on your blood.

Dark mist (warlock/nightblade): the sorcerer's shadow cloak is dispersed into a thin mist and provides advanced warning of incoming attacks as they travel through it, increasing defensive rerolls by 1 and giving advanced warning of incoming attacks (reduces ambush pushdown from ambushers by 1). In addition, it has a chance to reveal hostile ambushers that pass within the mist (stalk the user). Those who remain too long in the mist (not grouped) may start to suffer other effects (occasional chance to stagger for a few seconds every 30 or so). The mist also grants a small bonus to stealth for the caster themself (additional reroll when hiding or stalking). The mist coalesces back into a shadow cloak when leaving the area.
