Locksmithing tools of the trade

Post by ThresherAle »

In my amateur hobbyist adventures in lockpicking, I gotta say that tension wrenches should take some wear over time as well, not just the lockpicks. We should have to replace them every so often. Also let us buy them in different metal types.

Some more lockpick metals would be nice. I always liked having my cobalt ones in CLOK, and some other materials that are extremely expensive but give some kind of bonus or just have great durability would be cool as well. Basically, while steel picks are nice and last a good long time, I gotta admit anything other than real-world metals is just cool to have. I actually think steel picks might be a little too durable. I've been burning through a giant pile of boxes while I write this and it started out scuffed and remains scuffed after maybe 50ish boxes.

I'd enjoy needing to actually have the trap-disarming tools on me, instead of them just being implied like they are now. Have them also take wear and tear and need replacing. When new trap types come out, make us need to buy additional tools for them. Give locksmiths a little more depth to building and maintaining their kit.

Some kind of specialist tools for Rogues and Treasure Hunters would be awesome. Some rare special locks and traps that require tools and techniques only the specialists know. Rare, but helps them feel special.

Also for specialist Rogues and Treasure Hunters, give them the ability to salvage trap parts. Poison needles and instant darkness beads could be a lot of fun.

Not insisting only Rogues and Treasure Hunters have all the fun, add some rare arcane traps that only Bards can learn to safely disarm, with a chance of salvaging to re-use too. Druidic traps for Rangers to handle? Not sure what a druidic trap would be like, and I don't hear of many Rangers training in locksmithing, but no reason to leave them out.

Almost forgot our Nightblade brothers. Throw in some sorcerous traps for them to handle and try to salvage as well.

I think I've also suggested this in the past. I would love to see actual tools needed to disarm traps, as well as a possibility to salvage traps for ingredients used in the making of traps or just to be able to use as stand alone items, perhaps have a market related to the various guilds where you can sell the parts and it stocks traps for sell after a time and enough resources are available in it.

Updates and additions to the trap system is high on my Want List but low on my Priority List. Adding durability degrade to tension wrenches is an easy update, though. Expect that and additional materials for them soon(tm).
