Maybe an occult way to free up recipe points? Could be a mental kind of occult power or ritual, or if you didn't want PCs able to do that, make it an NPC service only. Could have a risk of impacting morale and sanity?
PS: I dig the overall idea of limiting recipes.

Re: Sorcery, Druidry, Thaumaturgy now affinities instead of skills
Just read the post on affinities, and this sounds SUPER interesting! I'll be very excited to see how the magic/occult system works first hand. It sounds like amazing fun.

Re: Guild Class specialization
I could go either way on the matter, but personally, I kind of enjoy it when there's specializations for things like this. I enjoy systems wherein you have to make meaningful choices to build your character, rather than being able to pick and choose whatever you want, with little to no downsides/res...

Re: Hydromancy and Pyromancy
I think an interesting compromise would be if the classical elements were shifted more to ritual and rote based casting, and away from quick, easily accessible channeling. This could result in things like specializing in magical traps, enchanting equipment, and the creation of limited use charms tha...

Re: Spoilage Rates
Traditional curing methods for preservation would be cool. And while I don't agree with refrigeration units, depending on the geography of the area, perhaps some enterprising individual might own land with caves below, which the people of the town use as (rented) food storage, since it's a pretty co...

Re: Elemancy?
This is one of the few big hangups I'm still stuck on. I think it's no secret to those who know me from back in CLOK that I'm not a big fan of elemancy. I spoke several times of "nuking" the University of Elemancy. While this new "alternate reality" for COGG presents an opportun...

Re: Roles!
I just wanna be a slightly dour druidy-ranger type. I'm not entirely sure what role(s) from this list I'll be able to assist in or fill yet, though! Mostly depends on things like abilities, guilds, so on and so forth.

Re: Occultism and Arcana as Alternatives - Unique Character Concepts at High Skill
I'm very much not a fan of having magic that duplicates skills and utilities that other people have put effort into specializing in via nonmagic skills, especially considering the magic thing tends to (in other games) allow branching into a multitude of abilities and utilities simply by virtue of b...
